Oh No, It's Not for Me It's For the Baby!

The baby’s arrival is looming and bed rest is holding back some projects for the baby room so I’ve been forced to spend a few minutes (cough, hours, cough) on Etsy looking for the perfect pieces that, sure, the babe probably won’t give a damn about, but would bring me joy every moment I spent in their room. Now all we need is a winning lottery ticket.
Love it! When the babe isn't looking I could smuggle it into my room! Bunny Rabbit Feltidermy by Girl Savage.

Go Crazy? Don't Mind If I Do!

Let me tell ya, bed rest is not as fun as one may first be led to believe. There are only so many movies you can watch over and over again before it gets old. I’ve considered using this time to write my first great novel, but somehow all I seem to type is ‘All work and no play makes Becky…’ well you get the idea.

I have been writing out many many lists, furniture to be rearranged, clothes to sew, how to optimize our storage spaces, canning to try, what to do with the garden, recipes to try, furniture to refinish, projects for next year, colour schemes for each room, and these are just a few not even touching on baby or business lists. Of course when you’re trying to stay calm and keep your blood pressure down it thinking of all the things you can’t do doesn’t help.

So, what have I been up to? I am allowed to slowly putter so I’ve starter a few projects for the baby room. I’ve been hand sewing a flying pig mobile, choosing fabric for some old couch cushions we’re going to use as floor pillows in anticipation of all the time we will soon be spending on the hard wood floor. I sit at the table and prep vegetables for Matt as he fills up our freezer for the winter and tells me to sit back down and stop doing things. I gaze out the window at our chickens digging up bugs in the yard. Most of all? I sit and find beautiful things on the internet and think hey, I want that.
Right now I want this poster and I want it to be my lifestyle. Sigh. So bored.

Procrastinating

Today marks the start of what I have dubbed packing week and what do I find myself doing? Drinking tea and pouring over old desiretoinspire posts, dreaming of future projects for our first home. Sure none o these projects will happen for years to come, but I like to be prepared.
In other news I'm going to be in this month Poppytalk Handmade Market starting Monday. Wish me luck and go check it out!

Gettin' It Done

With just over a month before we move my to do list is through the roof, and let me tell you the roof is on fire (hehehe). Lots of furniture first aid, clothes to mend, clothes to make, becoming smitten to manage... the list goes on and on. I find the more there is to do the less I do, however I have been posting some goodies on etsy lately and have great plans to do it more often.
Meanwhile my list grows on. Anyone know an inexpensive plumber?

New Goods for Becoming Smitten?

Yes, it's true! I'm still truckin along with Becoming Smitten and have even found the time to create a few new little badges. No two are alike each is a different organic shape and a fine addition to a jacket, bag or stuffed best friend.

Fur Pile

Look at all the work being done at the Becoming Smitten homestead. I've got my nose to the grindstone. Etsy won't even know what hit it!

Well It's About Time!

I have finally found what has been missing in my life, someone to sit in my home and harass me until I have accomplished something. The end product? Five, that's right 5 new items in my etsy shop. I'm really happy with my photos; I upended our table and shoved our old dresser against it then threw in a pinecone for good measure. I even got my hands on a natural lamp for the perfect lighting. It just takes so long, but no my loyal friend sat behind me (doing the dishes and making smitten buttons no less) until there was an end result. Yep, lazy procrastinators all across the land should all have such a friend.

Sunday Shops: Cuddle, Carry, Cozy

What better way to spend a Sunday than shopping on etsy. The problem is that it's a great way to spend your entire pay check too...
I'm a pretty big fan of cats, and thus am a pretty big fan of penguinandfish. I love all her fabric choices and each kitties cute little face. This one, Kitty no.63 is only $45. There's also a charming blog to go with the shop.

Okay, so maybe I can't justify a $90 hat, so this would fall under the 'once-I-win-a-Set-for-Life-scratch-and-win-and-can-have-everything-I've ever-wanted' category. In the mean time terrygraziano's Fine and Dandy - black hat is nice to look at. It's "a delicious concoction of a newsboy, a slouch hat, a beret and a crusher".

Now could I be anymore stylish when my hubby and I are off adventuring in France carrying around a GetReadySetGO bag? These are all upcycled funky vintage bags that they refinish to be lovely again. I think they sum it up in their description..."this bag is killer-sweet". Cobalt Blue VINTAGE Carry On Messenger Bag with Hand Drawn Black Bird on a Branch $52.50.

CircaCeramics 6oz tea cup vesper (pinstriped clementine) for $18. I think everyone and their dog wants one of these cups or bowls. There's nothing I love more than a cup of tea in a pretty mug. Sure I have a million mugs already, but whats one more if it brings you joy?

So I'm thinking that while I carry my beautiful new bag down the streets of Paris I could catch a chill and will need just a little something to bundle up with. Perhaps this yorktownroad flare scarf in light green linen is just what I need, and for $40 why not.

The Elephant Continued

The first animal I made was an elephant for a dear friend of mine and I've since made a few custom ones so the pattern is already made, I just have to whip up a few and as soon as I do you can be sure that I'll be posting pictures! In the mean time I've found some charming elephants on etsy for your enjoyment...
We'll start with "Lets grow old and wrinkly together", a vintage image of two old and grey elephants. Its made with post consumer card stock by SugarStreetCafe.

This is Elephant Love Print 8.5 x 11 by OrangeWillow for only $15 what a steal! I don't know why but I am always drawn to drawings like this with animal heads on people, but I'm scared of masks... odd? Maybe a little.

And finally a favorite seller of mine somethingshidinghere has these forget me not elephants. Its a mini plastic elephant covered in blue glitter, whats not to love!

Wednesday's Whatnot

Maybe it's the snow falling, maybe it's the fire place crackling behind me but I am so very much in love with Christmas right this moment. And nothing says Christmas like these Christmas Critters I have found on Etsy lately!

This first one you can just picture being carried around by its leg every where its little owner went. Made by Makeitawesome from Toronto this little grey rabbit is made out of vintage angora sweaters filled with lambswool and looks ready for a snuggle!

This is a paper doll set. Now in my opinion there are just not enough paper doll sets in this world. This is made by wool and water, It's a print that you cut and assemble yourself. Doesn't every little girl who lived near a forest wish that she could have a little bear cub to pal around with? Perfectly named this is a delicate heart .

Tilly Bloom makes illustrated jewelery, and this
Sir Henry Frog Brooch is nothing short of spectatular! Seriously straight out of the Wind in the Willows.

The Dancing Couple is a print done by Berkley Illustration and is full of all the magic that Christmas can bring!

New Badger and Frog

I've just added two new guys to my etsy shop and edited all of my descriptions for each animal already posted. Now they are all described in the first person...I am a badger, I am endangered. Apparently shoppers like to feel a connection to that which they shop for. We'll see if it works.

New Animals on My Etsy

I've just added a few more animals on my etsy account. It's quickly becoming a plethora of goodies. All my animals are inspired by animals in British Columbia that are listed on COSEWIC ranging from engandered to being under special concern. It breaks my heart that creatures are suffering due to our sins. Just because they can't say stop doesn't mean we should just keep trashing their homes. I use only organic linen or organic linen blends, sometimes hemp, sometimes cotton, and then all my extras are found fabrics. Every animal has a little patch on it's back for a little more detail that I hand print snd sew on, and every animal comes with it's own bag. I think the bag is an important feature, everything should come with it's own storage system...
